From Dallas, TX to Pine Bluff, AR, meet Bernard Iwegbu!

Thank you for taking the time to share with us! Let's start with a little bit about your agricultural background.

I graduated with my bachelors in Animal Science from UAPB in 2013, and everything you do in life somehow ties back to Agriculture.

What exactly is your agricultural profession? What is your favorite part about what you do?

I'm a Senior Researcher at my Alma Mater, University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, and I'm also over the livestock at UAPB. I have 16 Black angus cows, 50 goats, and an assortment of chickens and ducks. I love the first part of the day. The animals get excited to see us everyday.

Tell us what it's like being an African American in Agriculture in today’s society?

I feel as if it’s an overlooked field for us simply because people think agriculture is just farming when it’s so much more.

How do you think the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the agricultural industry?

Slowed but not stopped. Farmers have always been resourceful and there will always be a need for resources.

Agreed! What words of encouragement or advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing an agricultural career or operation?

Whatever you want to do can be found within this discipline. You have the opportunity to go in literally any direction and succeed!

Do you provide any agricultural services? If so, what are they and how can others learn more?

Not at the moment, but I will be selling fresh produce (veggies and farm fresh eggs), soon!

Once again, thank you for taking the time to share a little bit of your story with us. Your representation and contribution in the Agricultural community is greatly appreciated!
